Title: Time for Examination
Big Idea: Now is a good time to examine the scripture & our heart.
Scripture Reference: John 8
II Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
…So we use God’s word to teach, reprove, correct, & train.
1. Eyewitnesses & their associates wrote the NT in Greek.
They are translated word for word or thought for thought. NLT, NIV, CSB are thought for thought translations focused on the overall meaning & not just the individual words.
NKJV, NASB, ESV are word for word translations.
2. The Bible has more manuscripts by far than any ancient document & less than 1% variation.
Over 5,800 ancient Greek manuscripts.
3. There is nothing in the less than 1% of variances that change the teachings of the Bible, Christ or the gospel.
The bible is studied, researched, mapped, & reliable & many of those who wrote these things gave their lives so we could read it.
8:1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.
3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?”
6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.
1. You can’t trap Jesus.
7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”
2. Examine yourself before helping others.
8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
John 5:18 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”
I John 3:9 Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.
3. Your forgiveness is an opportunity for following.
Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him”.
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
Discussion Questions
Look over these questions before your group time. Write down your answers or ideas for at least a few questions if not all. You may not get to every question during your time, but speak up if you want to talk about one of them in particular. Always try to start with question #1.
What stood out to you and/or what do you think God might be speaking about from this message?

What stood out to you and/or what do you think God might be speaking about from this message?
- How does understanding the reliability of the Bible affect your personal faith?
- How do we sometimes act like Pharisees by judging others while ignoring our own sin? How can we become more self-aware about this?
- How or why do people use grace as a license to continue in sin rather than as power to live righteously?
- How does the command to sin no more challenge modern cultural ideas about tolerance, acceptance, and personal freedom?
- How is Jesus the light of the world in your life?
